Sanibel Island is in the Gulf of Mexico, just off Fort Meyers, Florida. Over half of the island is set aside as natural habitat, including the J.N. "Ding" Darling Wildlife Refuge, which welcomes visitors and is home to over 200 species of birds and many other animals.
